How to improve Digestion…

Digestion often forgotten about when people start their weight loss journey. There is a lot of consideration given to the training and nutrition programme however some people do not even consider digestion.  A lot of our clients that come in to see us have issues with their digestion and are completely unaware.

We commonly have a lot of people come in to see us who have already joined a gym, increased their weekly activity and have made changes to their nutritional intake.  More often than not this means they have gone from not training at all to training 3 times a week and massively reduced their food intake.  This will certainly cause a calorie deficit however it will make you feel tired, drained, affect energy levels and even disrupt your sleep. Your body still requires calories and they are important it terms of your digestion.

Your digestive system has the job of digesting food, breaking it down and absorbing what you consume into your blood stream. If you are not digesting food efficiently you are not absorbing what we need and your body starts to work less efficiently. This in turn causes a chain reaction in the body effecting your energy, mood, blood sugar and sleep pattern.

Here are some tips we use with all our clients when they begin a training journey with us at Body Clinic.

  1. Remove any food groups that cause any irritation or discomfort. This could be gluten, dairy and some vegetables.
  2. Use a high-quality pro biotic supplement and take it before bed or on an empty stomach. Many elements can cause good bacteria to drop such as poor-quality food, stress and anti-biotic use. Adding a pro biotic will top up your levels and support your immune system.
  3. You need to be able to break down food efficiently. In order to do this, you need a good production of stomach acid. A way we work on this is recommending a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar twice a day.
  4. Adding just 5 grams of glutamine to your diet three times a day can help repair and protect the gut lining. You can usually tell if it is damaged if you are showing signs of food intolerances.

After years of working with different clients we have discovered all the areas that need to be developed and worked on to make the most effective progress. Simply by improving digestion helps with weight loss, sleep quality, mood, recovery from exercise and skin health.

I hope you have found this article useful.  If you have any questions regarding this topic or would like to book in for your free consultation with myself or one of my team of trainers just drop me an email.

Have an awesome week.
