I’m working away this week in Bahrain 🇧🇭 with one of my athletes. It is tough keeping keeping on track when having to jump on flights and not able to utilise your usual routine of eating and training when you like.✈️👍🏻
Here are four tips that I use whenever I am away and I also advise my clients on how to eat on the go, make good substitutions to their food and also getting active while travelling:↘️
1️⃣INTERMITTENT FAST: I use this a lot especially on the day of my flight. If I’m flying early I just get myself organised and head to the airport and do not eat until I am literally waiting for my flight. This gives me more time but also it pushes my first meal back to later in the day. Also it’s a challenge to find good food at the airport so sometimes you have to go for sometime higher in calories. So having times of the day where you go low calorie and low carbohydrate may help although this is not suitable for everyone.⏱
2️⃣PLAN AHEAD: Get yourself organised, I am sure you know where you are travelling or staying. Why not check out some of the menus or possible food places locally. Check out if there is a gym at your hotel or local incase you can manage to squeeze some training in while you are away. It massively reduces your time and stress levels if you already know where the gym is, how to get there and what equipment it has.😉👍🏻💪🏻
3️⃣BE ACTIVE MINDED: If it isn’t possible getting to the gym look to increase your NEAT levels (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis) and burn more calories just by being active checking out the local area , sight seeing, swimming etc.🏃♀️🏃🏼♂️
4️⃣ENJOY YOURSELF: With my clients I always ensure they have realistic goals and realistic plans. Obviously progress is important but other aspects are essential such as happiness, confidence and well being, both physically and mentally. Life is short and time is precious, so if you are not enjoying yourself you need to make a change. So while your away coming off plan a little with the meal out or drink is easy integrated in under the right circumstances. 😉🙏🏻
