We hear a lot about fat, mainly negative. When we have consultations with clients we often hear that they go for the fat free option or that they have removed it from their diet completely. People try to avoid consuming fat as they think it will result in them getting fat.
The fact about fat is that it is essential to human health. Fat is one of the main macronutrients that can help determine your overall health. To help you understand the benefits of essential fats, check out their important roles below:
- It is an essential energy source.
- It leaves you feeling fuller for longer.
- A low-fat diet can reduce the efficiency of vitamin absorption.
- It helps maintain and balance our hormones.
- Lowering your fat intake lowers your omega 3 fats which is essential for blood function.
So when we hear that some of our clients are restricting or even completely removing this macronutrient from their diet, we soon work on introducing it back using our nutrition programmes. No macronutrient should ever be ignored and certainly not removed on purpose. If you want to lose weight, maintain weight or even gain weight fat intake is essential for all goals.
Some good examples of adding healthy fats to a meal would be by adding avocado to a chicken salad or by adding some small walnuts to a stir fry or even adding a smashed avocado for breakfast with some eggs.
So please do not neglect fat as it is essential for a healthy diet and for the body to work efficiently.
